What is CPR? Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) consists of mouth-to-mouth respiration and chest compression. CPR allows oxygenated blood to circulate to vital organs such as the brain and heart. CPR can keep a person alive until more advanced procedures (such as defibrillation - an electric shock to the chest) can treat the cardiac arrest. CPR started by a bystander doubles the likelihood of survival for victims of cardiac arrest.  Call 911. Whenever CPR is needed, remember to call for emergency medical assistance right away and then begin CPR.

LEARN CPR WITH LIFE BEAT INC.  The three basic parts of CPR are easily remembered as "A B C"
A = Airway. The victim's airway must be open for breathing to be restored. The HeartSaver CPR course will include what to do to clear the airway if the victim has choked and the airway is blocked.

B = Breathing. Rescue breathing essentially breathes for the victim by forcing air into the lungs at correct intervals and checking for signs of life. The HeartSaver CPR course will review correct techniques and procedures.

C = Circulation. Two rescue breaths should be provided, followed immediately by cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths. The HeartSaver CPR course will teach you how to perform chest compressions and how to coordinate them with rescue breathing.
